This is why we never turn Pentax rumors into "facts" on this site.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

RiceHigh blog site, that has been calling itself the best Pentax blog on the internet for years, really screwed up this time. This guy is know by the Pentax community to be a little strange. He claims he is a Pentax enthusiast and supporter, but always post negativity toward Pentax products.

Anyway, he got hold of some unfounded news about new Pentax cameras being introduced and put all his trust in a rumor. He even posted a clock counting down to the release of 5 cameras.

Shame on you.

His opening statement:

What Internet Contents that Could be Trusted BTW?

Obviously not his!

A few weeks ago, he posted that he wanted to have the credits whenever someone was taking something from his site and publishing it on their site.

The Credits for this article is to RiceHigh's Pentax Blog.

You can read all on his site by clicking on the images below.

Comparison of Motorhomes and Digital Cameras!

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

If cameras were motorhomes, this is how they would compare, in my opinion.

This would be a Pentax camera. Great all around and waterproof, at a reasonable price.

The above would be Canon cameras. They all look the same, everybody has one and they make more of them than any other brand.

Nikon is not far behind Canon and they mass produce many models. Users all look like Ashton Kutcher

This is an hybrid camera, manufactured by many brands, mostly Olympus, Sony and Panasonic.

This is a Point-and-shoot camera, smaller, but stupid looking, especially when equipped with a big lens.

This would be the old 35mm film cameras. Treasured, collectible but useless.

There is no digital camera to compare with this, but this is what I would want. Best all around.

Raise your hand if you have ever lost digital image files.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

I have been taking photographs since I was a kid. That's a long time and a lot of photographs. Of course, my early pictures weren't all that good and most are long gone. I have to say though, I still have some of those images tucked away in some shoe boxes after all these years.

I don't look at them very often, maybe every few years or so. It's always nostalgia 101 for me, and even if it brings back good memories, it has a way to make me reflect on the years gone by...but that's for another post.

I turned to digital in the mid 90's and I was blown away with the ease of use and the possibilities. At first, I wanted to print every images, and I did for a while. It didn't take long to realize that it was costly to print them and started to use floppy disks to save my images for future needs.  Gradually, I updated computers, and as the technology evolved, the media changed as well. I went from floppy disks to CD's, to DVD's, to hard drives, to ever bigger hard drives, to portable hard drives, and recently, to the clouds.

Well, with all that fantastic technology, I lost about 60% of my pictures. I had hard drives crashes, updated computers and forgot some images saved in some folders, changed and updated software, etc. Whatever the reason, some files a gone forever. Strangely enough, I was able to recuperate some images by Googling on images under my name.

Most digital cameras currently use SDHC  cards, at least all my Pentax cameras do. In the early days, film was expensive. A roll of 36 pictures, including processing would cost you around $20 bucks. Now, with memory cards holding anywhere from 200 to 500 "RAW" files and costing between $10.00 to $25.00, I am thinking that  memory cards are cheap enough to take pictures until a card is full, (that's after deleting the bad images), and to file lock the card so it cannot accidentally be overwritten. There is no need for shoe boxes anymore. A small 3" x 3" x 3"box can keep hundreds of cards, each holding hundreds if not thousands of images.  Images can be in RAW format (DNG is a good way to go since it's the closest to a universal RAW format. It is the Adobe standard.

Saving images in RAW means that in the future, as software becomes even better, you might be able to bring back older images and use more advanced software to process them into  better images than the originals. That is a fact, as I already brought old files and make them look better than the originals.

I still save my images within my Adobe Lightroom folders, as well as in the clouds, but I do not erase files from my SDHC cards anymore. I label them, slide the little tab on the card to prevent overwriting, and save them in a small box.

The memory cards are still much cheaper than film and negatives, and unless I lose the box, I retain all my images. Of course, they are also saved on my computer a few times, on separate hard drives and in the clouds, but I can guaranty you that hard drives will crash, clouds saving will be tampered with by hackers, and computers will be upgraded.

You only have one life to live and you can't go back. Save tomorrow's memories now.

From the Pentax K-5 to Canon 7D...in the long run, this will be a mistake, and a costly one.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

A few weeks ago, I posted a partial post and a link to   blog site. Since that day, Steve purchased a Canon 7D and a Canon 400mm lens. I'm not sure if he sold his Pentax equipment, but that move will certainly cost him a lot. If he changed all his equipment from Pentax to Canon, he will be paying 2 to 3 times for his lenses and accessories.  He will no longer be part of this exclusive group that is the Pentaxians. We march to to the beat of a different drum. We don't buy Canon or Canon because everyone else do. We are not followers.

However, maybe Steve is now a two brands photographer. Hopefullyhe still is a Pentax shooter. His photographs are very good and I doubt that his new 7D will make them any better. It's the photographer that takes the pictures, not the camera. Click on the image below for the full article.

The reason I think it will be a mistake on the long run is that Pentax will be introducing new cameras and lenses soon. When one gets rid of all his equipment from one brand, it's hard to come back. Pentax cameras and lenses will always be a better deal for the money. Also, Steve didn't need another camera, his photographs speak for him.

Now is a good time to get a brand new Pentax K-5.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

Now would be a good time to buy a brand new K-5. We already know that the K-5 has been the most succesful DSLR from Pentax. We all know that the image quality surpassed any other APS-C DSLR from any company within the same price category, and that for a long time.

Pentax currently does not have any DSLR that is better than the K-5, K-5 II and the K-5 IIs. Is it better to wait for Pentax's future flagship camera or buy a K-5 today at a more than fair price?
