Hi Photographer friends,
People spend days and even weeks in the wilderness taking wildlife photography. It's all about patience and equipment.
I am lucky enough to live in Big Bear, California, at an elevation of 7,000 ft. I am not taking pictures of Bears and mountain lions. Off my porch, I installed a couple of bird feeders, food for squirrels and Chipmunks. It took about two weeks for the little creatures to get used to my presence. Now, they come get their food and get as close as six feet from me and the camera.
Funny enough, I can now recognize which bird or small animal is coming by. I even gave them names. They all have their own personality and it's interesting to see how they interact between each other. Soon, we will see the babies coming to feed. I suspect that they will even be less afraid of us as their parents. We are becoming part of their feeding routine.
You too can do the same, in your backyard, or if you are a City dweller, you probably have a park or a wooded area nearby. Go to the same place as often as you can, feed them and they will return.
No, it's not a wild Safari, but it's interesting to watch nature's beauty and capture the moments.
Thank you for visiting,
Yvon Bourque
