The instruction manual that should have come with the Pentax K-5. Maybe this is it.

 Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Pentaxian friends.

It's a universally known fact that EOM Manuals (Pentax, Nikon, Canon and others) are complex and ambiguous. They are translated in multiple languages and the original, being in Japanese, often becomes vague in another language. The e-book presented here was written specifically for the Pentax K-5. It contains 300 pages of information pertaining to the K-5 as well as photographic “How-to”, color photographs as examples of what it being taught, lots of theory and hands-on explanation, all written in a not-so-technical way that everyone can get something out of this e-book. This is the most complete e-book in our series of e-book published for the Pentax line of DSLRs.  In addition of the demo pages below, a free and more complete sample download of the e-book is available here. You can also purchase the e-book here for the price of a few Starbucks coffees.

I am an Indie publisher, basically meaning that I am a self-publishing author, not part of the Amazon or big publishing companies. Unless you sell millions of books, there are absolutely no monetary benefits in belonging to a global publishing company. I don't ask for donations to write and maintain this blogsite nor do I post Google ads. There are no negative reasons in asking for donations or posting Google ads or being sponsored by the big camera stores like B&H or Adorama, etc. It's just not my cup-of-tea. My blogsite will never grow to the enormous sizes of some of the other sites, because I'm almost strictly Pentax.  Pentax accounts for about 5% of global camera equipment sales.  I'm okay with that. I'm a diehard Pentax user and will stay that way.

I received many positive comments about my e-books, and that makes me feel good, and justifies the long hours it took to write my e-books. I appreciate my blog readers and e-books buyers. I hope to be able to continue this endeavor for a long time.

Thank you for reading my blog and thank you for your encouragement.

Pentax K-x e-book is in progress. Should have it completed within the next four weeks.

Hi Pentaxian friends.

I finally received enough information from Pentax to write an e-book about the newest Pentax DSLR, the K-x. There are a lot of functions similar to the K-7 and some of the K-7 e-book can be recycled. I have a very good feeling about this new K-x, because it uses a Sony 12.4 megapixel CMOS sensor. The image quality will likely be very good at high ISO. I believe that it will surpass the K20D and K-7 at high ISO.

I haven't had a chance to shoot with the camera much, but as I write the e-book, I will also be testing the K-x. I will report my findings.

In the meantime, you can get e-books for the K10D, K100D, K20D and the K-7 on this blogsite. You can print the e-books on your own computer/printer for your own use, however, a "copyright" watermark will appear on each page. My prices are ridiculously low, but that makes copying my books for resale non-profitable.

Thank you for visiting,

Mannequins with better facial expressions than some real people...they don't have any worries! Could they just be happy about the Pentax K-7?

Hi Pentaxian friends.

Back in January, we were in Palm Springs for a weekend of R&R. I was just updating my files tonight when I stumbled on the pictures above. The first three mannequins were all located in the same store. It was a clothing store. It was late at night and the lighting was coming from the inside of the store. Using the Pentax K200D set at ISO 200, with the DA 18-55mm set at 42mm with an aperture of f/5.6 - 1/100th sec, I pressed the lens right up against window pane to alleviate any reflection, and took the pictures. I love the facial expression and the vivid colors of the mannequins.

The last picture was taken the next day, at lunch time, at a hamburger joint called "Hamburger Mary". I took that picture with the Pentax K20D fitted with the DA* 16-50mm set at 21mm, ISO 200, 1/750 sec @ f/2.8. The burgers were really good and you should stop there if you ever go to Palm Springs. As for the mannequin, Dolly Parton was probably the inspiration!

I like these pictures of joyful faces, and yet, there aren't any real people in the frame.

If only six letters were changed on the K20D, how popular do you think it would be?

Hi Pentaxian friends.

According to DPReview, which probably receives more hits everyday than all the other photographic websites combined, shows the brand popularity for the past five days as follow:

Which one of the following DSLR would be selling the most?

Canon and Nikon, as we all know, dominate the DSLR market and their marketing budget is many time that of the Pentax's budget. More people know about the top brands and therefore more people purchase their DSLRs. Are they better cameras? No they are not. They do however make some of the Professional models selling for many thousands of dollars. Consequently, more Professional Photographers, you know the photographers that dominate the articles published by the photographic magazines, use these top of the line models. Really, many of the Professionals doing weddings, sports, photojournalism also need these very expensive DSLRs.

What do you think the sales of a K20D, or K10D manufactured by Nikon or Canon would have meant? I am 100% sure that the camera would have been introduced as a breakthrough camera. They would have promoted the in-camera shake reduction (SR), the Sv (Sensitivity Priority) as the best thing since sliced bread, the Dust and Humidity Resistance as revolutionary at that price range, etc.

The reality, Canon and Nikon wouldn' t have introduced the K20D at the price range it was introduced by Pentax. It would have been announced at twice the price and people would have flocked in camera stores to get one. Unfortunately my friends, I think that this shows the power of marketing. It's a vicious circle as the more you sell, the more you advertise and the more you advertise, the more you sell. It's the old saying of what came first - the chicken or the egg? How does Pentax get in?

Luckily for us, the owners of the K20D or any Pentax DSLR, we get to use a DSLR that is unmatched by any other brand for the price. We, Pentaxians, know that very well. We're even a little cocky about it, but that's understandable. We are an unusual bunch of photograhers. We don't care about friends or strangers boasting about their Nikon or Canon cameras. We know they're wrong and sometimes we even feel sorry for them.

Maybe in time, they will come to their senses. I'm not saying that the K20D is equivalent or better than the D3x or the EOS-1Ds Mark III, but it's certainly a lot more camera for the price. Besides, what picture could these DSLRs take that the K20D couldn't?

Aren't we fortunate!
