I hope Pentax and all other Camera Companies copy the design of the Sony NEX-7.

That is a Digital Camera I would love to own.

Hi Photographer friends,

Yes, I'm probably one of the biggest and most loyal fan of Pentax equipment and that will never change.  However, with the soon-to-be-available Sony NEX-7, I am hoping that Pentax will develop a similar Digital Camera. The availability of the NEX-7 has been delayed because of the flooding in Thailand, but once the shipping resume, I believe it's going to be one of the most sought after Digital Camera.

The camera seems to incorporate everything that photo enthusiasts have been asking for. It includes a APS-C  (23.5mm x 15.6mm) sized 24MP CMOS sensor, the first really usable Electronic View Finder (EVF),  a mirror-less body, a small footprint, interchangeable lenses (any lenses with adapters, including Pentax, Canon, Nikon and more), a 3" 921,600 dots tilting and swiveling  LCD Monitor, 12 fps shooting, 1080p movie @ 60P and 24P just like the Pro Film Makers,  Object Tracking AF, etc, etc,.

You can read a review here by Luminous Landscape.

Sony makes sensors for other brands of camera makers, Pentax included. I believe that the next DSLR or Mirror-Less camera from Pentax will incorporate this 24MP sensor. I just hope that they make a mirror-less camera with this 24MP sensor and make it compatible with all Pentax DA / DA* lenses. An APS-C mirror-less camera from Pentax would complement the K-5 or any future Pentax DSLR.

The most promising Digital Camera on the horizon for 2012.

EVF and articulated LCD is a perfect combination.

One of the best all around layout and size.

Hi!
I saw the dpreview's review, and I noticed that Nex7 is noisier than the previous model from 1600iso up to 6400 (well, after nex5 has too much noise, so it is impossible to compare noise with noise... :D ).
Obviously I'm talking about RAWs not jpegs.
Do you see the same?

The noise issues will probably be fixed via Firmware uopgrades. What I really like is the practicality of such mirror-less camera with an APS-C sensor. The best of all worlds.

I'm kind of surprised they still cram more mpixels into the aps-c sensor. Beats me...

i think this is a mirror-less camera, but when i read it, iam suprised because this camera is APS-C camera. for the noise issues, how can i upgrade the firmware?

I am sure that the noise issues that have been reported will be fixed. All tests were done with units with the pre-production firmware. It's always the case with new cameras. The problem we have with the new Sony NEX-7 is that the factory making them has suffered hughes damages from the floods in Thailand. The second issue will be that even if Pentax decides to make a similar mirror-less camera, they are likely won't be able to use the new 24MP sensor for a while. They could always use the same sensor as the k-5. That would suit me just fine. Think of the great pancake lenses that Pentax has. Those would be a perfect complement to such mirror-less camera. Wishfully thinking!

The Sony NEX-7 screen can't swivel down to be seen at the front of the camera. It's really annoying. Sony didn't add multi-language menus either. Do they do that on purpose or just don't have people that think about those things... I would have bought it if the camera had a touch screen that could swivel down to the front.

Also when are they going to update the firmware for the DSC-WX30 and add the macro on/off setting they forgot?

The NEX images are really sharp which is nice but really flat. Maybe the processor is to slow to allow raw shots for all the effects. Pity about that. At least they are starting to make camera that compete with the big companies.

Does Sony still design products that are designed to fail? They said they used to do that but I was hoping they had started making better products.

Love Sony's ideas and the NEX-7 concept but they are slow movers when it comes to firmware updates.

The NEX-7's color shift settings should be put into all Sony cameras. The TX series can't capture purple colors of flowers etc properly. Just try and get accurate colors. It's almost impossible now.

To anonymous,

Would Have, Should have, etc. There aren't any perfect camera, and if there were, what would be the point? If one wants a camera that does it all, just hire a professional photographer and tell him/her what you want. If the NEX-7 would have everything you mentioned here, you probably would find something else missing. When someone sign as "Anonymous" we don't know who you are and you could be a 14 years old kid just having fun.
