Hi Pentaxian friends.

Remember how so many Pentaxians got upset when Pentax introduced the white K2000?
Well, looks who is introducing an all-white Antarctica camera:

Looks to me like Leica is watching what Ned Bunnell is doing. You just wait and see what Pentax has up it's sleeve for this coming year.

That Leica is beautiful. Pentax came of as the innovator this time, like so many times in history.

Thought this might be of interest to you. I'm currently doing my national service in Norway and I've been talking to a sargent who works at the base at which I'm stationed. We were talking about photography and he mentioned that his unit has managed to aquire one of the white pentax camera's for use during winter exercises. His unit does survailance and so the white camera works well concidering the amount of snow we have here. He said it's a trial to see how well white camera bodies work vs regular camera bodies covered in a camo net. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they'll be buying any more of them as, at a distant, the all white camera looks less natural and was actually easier to spot than a gray camera covered with a white camo nett.

Aleks,

That's very interesting. Have they tried White with camo?

I really hope that what Pentax has "up its sleeve for this coming year" is more than just different colors of plastic. I'm saving up for the DA* 50-135mm lens and I'm really hoping that Pentax will come out with something to give me confidence that it will continue to be a real player in this market.

I'm afraid that I will regret not buying into the Nikon system.

Yvon, you are the only one giving me hope that I did not make a mistake by choosing Pentax. I love my K10D and my FA 50mm f/1.4 lens. I have every confidence that I will love the 50-135mm, but I'm worried that Pentax is dropping out of the DSLR competition -- or that they're going to target only girls wanting cute, tiny, colorful camera bodies. I keep reading about how the tiny, white K1000 appeals to women and seeing more cute colored bodies coming from Pentax (all of which are using the K10D's sensor).

That's fine, but what I'm looking for is a good, solid camera with high-ISO low-noise capability, in SOLID BLACK. And PLEASE, PLEASE Pentax make it a camera of a good size. (I plan to eventually get the battery grip for the K10D, because I a bigger camera, not a smaller one.)

So, I'm really hoping that the camera to be announced this summer will re-instill some confidence in Pentax for me. I just want to know that Pentax isn't going to stop innovating in the DSLR market.

Keep up the good work, Yvon!

Apparently the conclution was that black/gray with camo nett was better than white with and without camo nett. Not really sure why, but I have used camo netts myself during a winter exercise and even when wearing black, it's pretty damn hard to see a person covered in it.
