I'm from Montreal, and I grew up thinking everyone had a snowy season. However, now that I'm older, I like snow more than ever, but in photographs.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

I was born and grew up in Montreal, where the winters are harsh and long. I love snow and winter sports...but now I like it more in photographs. There was a snow storm in Montreal this week. Two of my nieces posted pictures on Facebook. It reminds me as to why I'm in California.  I love Montreal in the summer, as there is always something exciting to do. It a City of Festivals, all summer long and every week. Here is what it looks like at this time:

Here is what it looks like here at this time of year:

On another note, I received the Pentax K-5 II today and I will post my impression of it in a little while.

If you got a K-5, K-5II, K-5 II s or a K-30 from Santa Claus, we have e-books on all these cameras, to get you up to speed in a flash. E-Books

In about two weeks, I will spending five days in Las Vegas, specifically at the PMA / CES convention. I will be posting my findings every day. Of course, I will spent a fair amount of time inquiring about the Pentax stuff and everything that works with Pentax.

Thank you for supporting this site with your visits.

Best Regards,

Picture of Ruby's behind taken with my Pentax K-5.

Emailbrqyvn@gmail.com Hi Photographer friends,

This is Ruby (above). She 's got a big rear end! She replaced Miss Peggy (left). I had Miss Peggy for several years and many of my pictures were taken because she brought me to impossible places. It was a good time. Now, Ruby is going to tow this new House/Photo Studio that I finally saved enough to get. I will get possession of the Fifth Wheel on December 5th. I have been saving for years and purchased it five months ago with a big down payment and monthly payments until fully paid. December 5th is the big day. The rig will not be as agile as the Jeep, but it will be able to carry us to much farther places. I can guaranty that we will be gone every weekend in the coming summer. This will not stop my photography; it will make it easier to get away.

The k-5 and I went out today for a photo shoot of Ruby.

Ruby is much stronger than the Jeep, with a 7.3 Liter Diesel engine.
In addition to being a full size Pickup, Ruby has room for four people.
The dual rear wheels set-up allows her to carry enormous weight.
If only I could afford the Ranch where the photos were taken!
I cannot even afford the entrance gate.
The southern California San Bernardino Mountains are a great background.
This is the Fifth Wheel. Her name is "Tuesday". Together they form "Ruby Tuesday".
All the comfort of home, tagging along with us. Next summer will be great.

You will hear more about my Pentax cameras and "Ruby Tuesday" in the future. We will become best friends. I love photography, I love camping, I love traveling, so my blog will reflect all of my passions in the future..and then some.

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Thank you for everyone that purchased my e-books during this Thanksgiving weekend. The K-5 and K-30 e-books sold in greater numbers that any other weekend before. Pentax e-books on sale here.

  1. For those who haven't read the manual

Posted by Paul on 19th Aug 2012
The only ebook available for the K-5 is written in an easy to read style. Images and discussion of controls is effective. Password protection meand that I can't open the ebook on my ereader. Would be great to be able to do that...

  2. Learn what the official manual won't tell you

Posted by Colin Rayner on 16th Jul 2012
I purchased my first DSLR and struggled to learn how to use it other than as a point and shoot, while relying on the Pentax manual that camera with it. Then I came across this eBook and finally was able to start using the excellent directions within. I recommend it to anyone who wants to use the K-5 as it should be. First Class

  3. finally

I'm not a native speaker but I try to give a feedback in english. I had only some peeks into the book but gosh everything is there!
At last also the issue is mentioned which frustrated me at the beginning of my digital photographic life.
Here is the first book which has a whole chapter about FRONT/BACK-focus and explains how to deal with.
Thank you very much from the old world (Germany)

  1. get useful tips and tricks

Posted by Klemi on 18th Sep 2012
If you want to have more fun with your K30 get this eBook.
You can of course read the usermanual from the first to the last page but you will not get that much information and useful tips from a pro.
Easy to read and to understand at a fair price.

    Cheers Klemi

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Pentax K-01 not so bad after all. It has the best Video capabilities of any Pentax.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

Pentax introduced the K-30 a little while back and I already have that camera and wrote my last e-book about it.A few days ago, Pentax introduced the K-5 II and the K-5 II s. They are all great cameras, but none of the above can take video as well as the K-01.

The K-5, K-5 II and the K-5 II s cameras take good video, the problem is that they don't allow MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.   The K-5's can shoot video as follow:

  • Full HD (1920x1080), 16:9, 25 fps
  • HD (1280x720), 16:9, 30 fps and 25 fps
  • VGA (640x480), 4:3, 30 fps and 25 fps
Pentax really raised the bar as far as movie recording. Not only does the K-30 records in full HD at 1080p, but it does so @ 24, 25 or 30 fps. In addition, the camera can record sound from the built-in mono microphone. It lacks stereo channels and external microphone capabilities.. The file format is MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.The K-30 can shoot video as follow:
  •  FullHD (1920x1080) @ 16:9 aspect ratio, 30fps/ 25fps /24fps
  •  HD (1280x720) @ 16:9 aspect ratio, 60fps/ 50fps/ 30fps/ 25fps/ 24fps
  •  VGA (640x480) @ 4:3 aspect ratio,  30fps/ 25fps/ 24fps
Now, the K-01 can record the same formats as the K-30 but it has external stereo microphone input jack, and that makes a big difference. The K-01 does not have a prism viewfinder, but you wouldn't shoot a video through the viewfinder, you would shoot video with the LCD monitor. The K-01 is smaller and very portable. The 40mm kit lens is great.

I'm not much of a videographer, but I believe that the movies on the big screen are H.264
You can get there using the K-5's using software, but what's the point?

Thank you for reading,
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

New Pentax K-30 e-book "Everything you need to know...and then some" coming out the first week of September.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

The new PENTAX K-30 combines a compact, lightweight body with many advanced features found only in higher end DSLR camera models, such as a weather, dust and cold resistant body, a glass prism optical finder with 100% field of view, state-of-the-art autofocusing, and full HD video recording capabilities.

You knew that already.

I am introducing my newest e-book for the Pentax cameras.

The Pentax K-30 "Everything you need to know...and then some."

The e-book will be available the first week of September, on this site. This is my 8th e-book and I hope it will help many Pentax users better understand the capabilities of the K-30 and photography in general. It has well  over 200 pages of information, photography tips, video "how-to", and is chuck full of high resolution images and illustrations. My e-books are always written in a non-technical way and entry-level photographers all the way to advanced amateurs have learned to use their respecdtive Pentax camera  to its full potential.

Some photographers have purchased my e-books for each of the Pentax cameras they upgraded to since the K-100D.

Watch for it.

downloadable preview will be available shortly.

Thank you so very much  for your encouragement and business for the last five years. It's always a pleasure and a privilege to pass along what I have learned through  years of photography, and years of using the Pentax equipment exclusively.
