The Pentax K-S2 e-book is now available. 320 pages of information and how to!

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

Today, I introduce our new e-book, "PENTAX K-S2 Everything you need to know...and then some."

The K-S2 is the first Pentax DSLR with Wi-Fi and articulating screen. It's pretty special. Because it is so special, my e-book is also special. I  pretty much revamped my e-book template and I am proud of the new look. It is much more interactive than my previous e-books, with links from within the e-book and links to the internet. The e-book has 320 pages. This one took me three Months to write.

The K-S2 is a remarkable DSLR for it's price range. I prefer some of its features to that of my beloved K-3.

Email me if you would like a sample of the e-book. brqyvn@gmail.com

The full e-book is available, as all my Pentax e-books are, at ebooks4cameras.com

Thank you for being such loyalist readers.

Free sample of the Pentax K-3 e-book and Free Focus Check Charts.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

I received many emails telling me that the free Pentax K-3 sample e-book and the Free Auto-focus charts will not download from the e-commerce store. It appears that Paypal is blocking any free transactions although I posted them at $0.00.

I understand your frustration and I will upload the free stuff on a different server.First, I need to open another account with a provider. In the meantime, just email me at brqyvn@gmail.com and I will manually send you the file(s) you request (Samples or AF charts). I am not sitting at my computer all day, but do check periodically.  I do receive emails on my iPhone, but I can't transfer the files from my iPhone as it would take too much memory to install the files there to begin with.

The bottom line, if you haven't been able to download the free e-book samples or AF charts, email me. I will fix it.

Best Regards,

Yvon Bourque

The e-books for the Pentax K10D, K100D, K20D, K-7, K-x, K-r, K-5, K-5II, K-5II e, K-30,  K-50, K-500  and the K-3 are available here: http://www.ebooks4cameras.com

Raise your hand if you have ever lost digital image files.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

I have been taking photographs since I was a kid. That's a long time and a lot of photographs. Of course, my early pictures weren't all that good and most are long gone. I have to say though, I still have some of those images tucked away in some shoe boxes after all these years.

I don't look at them very often, maybe every few years or so. It's always nostalgia 101 for me, and even if it brings back good memories, it has a way to make me reflect on the years gone by...but that's for another post.

I turned to digital in the mid 90's and I was blown away with the ease of use and the possibilities. At first, I wanted to print every images, and I did for a while. It didn't take long to realize that it was costly to print them and started to use floppy disks to save my images for future needs.  Gradually, I updated computers, and as the technology evolved, the media changed as well. I went from floppy disks to CD's, to DVD's, to hard drives, to ever bigger hard drives, to portable hard drives, and recently, to the clouds.

Well, with all that fantastic technology, I lost about 60% of my pictures. I had hard drives crashes, updated computers and forgot some images saved in some folders, changed and updated software, etc. Whatever the reason, some files a gone forever. Strangely enough, I was able to recuperate some images by Googling on images under my name.

Most digital cameras currently use SDHC  cards, at least all my Pentax cameras do. In the early days, film was expensive. A roll of 36 pictures, including processing would cost you around $20 bucks. Now, with memory cards holding anywhere from 200 to 500 "RAW" files and costing between $10.00 to $25.00, I am thinking that  memory cards are cheap enough to take pictures until a card is full, (that's after deleting the bad images), and to file lock the card so it cannot accidentally be overwritten. There is no need for shoe boxes anymore. A small 3" x 3" x 3"box can keep hundreds of cards, each holding hundreds if not thousands of images.  Images can be in RAW format (DNG is a good way to go since it's the closest to a universal RAW format. It is the Adobe standard.

Saving images in RAW means that in the future, as software becomes even better, you might be able to bring back older images and use more advanced software to process them into  better images than the originals. That is a fact, as I already brought old files and make them look better than the originals.

I still save my images within my Adobe Lightroom folders, as well as in the clouds, but I do not erase files from my SDHC cards anymore. I label them, slide the little tab on the card to prevent overwriting, and save them in a small box.

The memory cards are still much cheaper than film and negatives, and unless I lose the box, I retain all my images. Of course, they are also saved on my computer a few times, on separate hard drives and in the clouds, but I can guaranty you that hard drives will crash, clouds saving will be tampered with by hackers, and computers will be upgraded.

You only have one life to live and you can't go back. Save tomorrow's memories now.

Thank you for reading,

Yvon Bourque

New Pentax K-30 e-book "Everything you need to know...and then some" coming out the first week of September.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

The new PENTAX K-30 combines a compact, lightweight body with many advanced features found only in higher end DSLR camera models, such as a weather, dust and cold resistant body, a glass prism optical finder with 100% field of view, state-of-the-art autofocusing, and full HD video recording capabilities.

You knew that already.

I am introducing my newest e-book for the Pentax cameras.

The Pentax K-30 "Everything you need to know...and then some."

The e-book will be available the first week of September, on this site. This is my 8th e-book and I hope it will help many Pentax users better understand the capabilities of the K-30 and photography in general. It has well  over 200 pages of information, photography tips, video "how-to", and is chuck full of high resolution images and illustrations. My e-books are always written in a non-technical way and entry-level photographers all the way to advanced amateurs have learned to use their respecdtive Pentax camera  to its full potential.

Some photographers have purchased my e-books for each of the Pentax cameras they upgraded to since the K-100D.

Watch for it.

downloadable preview will be available shortly.

Thank you so very much  for your encouragement and business for the last five years. It's always a pleasure and a privilege to pass along what I have learned through  years of photography, and years of using the Pentax equipment exclusively.

Photography workshop in Las Vegas and vicinity.

Hi Photographer friends,

I have embarked on a new venture, starting next week. I figured that since so many photographers are organizing workshops, I would organize one as well. Being a Pentax user, I reserved my workshop for owners of Pentax equipment only. It's a smaller market, but Pentax users are a special group and I like Pentax users' mentality. If you are a Pentaxian, you already know what I mean.

My workshop is simple but effective. It has been limited to four people. We will be based in Las Vegas for three days. The lodging is included, and a coffee table book of the entire workshop, with the participants' best pictures, is also part of the bundle. The book will not only remind the partakers of what they've learned during that week, but it will hopefully remind them of the new friends they've made.  I own a good variety of Pentax lenses to cover most situations and my lenses will be available to share with everyone in the group.

We will do three photo shoots; Night Photography, the Neon Signs boneyard and Red Rock Canyon. We will have one period each day to study the e-book, followed by an adlib questions and answers session.  The workshop is aimed at beginners and amateur photographers. It’s perfect for those moving up from a point-and-shoot to a DSLR. A free copy of each participant’s Pentax camera will also be given.

The workshop is based on my e-books, and all functions of the Pentax cameras will be reviewed, in the same non-technical way as in my e-books. The core of the workshop will be to understand and use the three elements of photography; Aperture, Shutter Speed and Sensitivity. Why, how and when one of the elements should be prioritized.

I have been to these locations numerous times and I know when and where the best images can be made. Red Rock Canyon will be an early morning shooting, the Neon Signs boneyard will be a daytime shooting and the Night Photo-Shoot will take place…well...at night.

Las Vegas is a fun place to be, and the location makes it ideal for couples.  One can participate in the workshop while the other can engage in other activities. There will be plenty of time left each day to enjoy Las Vegas as a couple. A great way to attend a workshop is to include your spouse/partner in the plans.

I will post some of the images next week and elaborate on the participant's feedback.

If you are interested in attending a future workshop, please email us at:

Thank you for reading, and we hope to meet you at a workshop,

Yvon Bourque
