It seems to me like the Pentax K-S2 is not selling very well. Why? Timing is everything.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

It seems to me that the Pentax K-S2 is not selling very well. Why?

I don't actually know if it sells good or not, but judging by the e-books I sell, the K-S2 is not doing very good. My newest e-book, for the K-S2 is my best e-book ever. There are more images, illustrations,  internet links and links within the e-book. The template used for that e-book has been revised to a more intuitive format.

I sell the K-3/K-3II e-book 10 to 1 when compared to the K-S2. I sell the K-5/K-5II e-books 5 to 1 when compared to the K-S2.

The K-S2 is a great little camera. It's the first Pentax with Wi-Fi and the first with the rotating screen. I thought the sales would go through the roof with it. So...why is it not selling that well?

For one thing, I think that many people are awaiting for the introduction of the Full Frame Pentax this fall.

But I really think that the main reason is its price. It's not that the camera is crazy expensive, but its introduction to the market was not done wisely, in my opinion.

As I write this, the K-S2 with the 18-50mm kit lens is selling for $674.99 with free expedited shipping.

The remaining K-3 still new and still available at most stores, is selling for $749,00 with free expedited shipping and the K-3II is selling for $935.24 also with free expedited shipping The kit lens in not included, but I suspect that they sell way more of these cameras without the kit lens.

On the used market, like EBay, the K-3 can be found at an average of around $ 650.00.  The K-3 is definitely a better DSLR than the K-S2. People are not stupid, they can see value for the money and the K-3 is the best value in the Pentax world at this time.

They should have waited until  the K-3 stocks were depleted or introduce the K-S2 at around $500.00.

What do you think?

Thank you for reading,

Yvon Bourque

Size comparison between the Pentax K-S2 and the Pentax K-3.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

I thought you would like to compare. The K-S2 seems to have so much more options than previous Pentax DSLRs. I can only imagine what the upcoming Full Frame Pentax will be like.

It looks like I will have the e-book for the K-S2 ready by the end of March. Email me brqyvn@gmail.com if you would like to receive an email when the e-book is ready for sale.

Best Regards,

Yvon Bourque

Revive old images taken with a 3.39 megapixels camera using Lightroom.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

I posted a while back about keeping your pictures that were well composed but with an incorrect exposure. My point was that someday, software would be available to correct the badly exposed images. Every year, new software packages are introduced with more and more capabilities. The pictures below were taken with digital cameras between 1998 and 2000. One camera had 3.39 megapixels.

Using Lightroom 5.3, I was able to revive some pictures, even more than I did before. I think they were all well composed , but the exposure and other factors keep me from doing anything with these images, except for keeping them in my photo files.

I cannot make them bigger and expect great results, but by using today's tools, I think they are acceptable for computer screen viewing and emails, or even Facebook and other social media places.

Here's what I did.
I tweaked the color and made them more vivid. I used Lightroom's Clarity slider, then the sharpening slider (to the right) and finally the Noise Reduction and Luminance. It makes the images look slightly like a water color print, but hides all of the imperfections.

In the end, photography is an Art and what ever pleases you or the viewers, is okay.

 Hi Photographer friends,

I am working diligently on the Pentax K-3 e-book. Help me choosing the cover.

I am about 75% completed with the e-book. I have two covers that I need to decide on. My spouse and I can't agree on which one reflects the Pentax enthusiasm the most.

You can write your preference in the comments at the bottom of the page, or email me directly at. brqyvn@gmail.com

Pentax K-3 and Ricoh GR e-books

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

I have received a lot of emails requesting when the Pentax K-3 e-book would be available and a few about the Ricoh GR e-book. I even had some folks prepaying for it. Please do not prepay for the e-book(s), it will complicate everything as the e-Commerce store I use sends  the link to download the e-book immediately after payment. As of now, everyone that have prepaid received a picture of the e-book only with no content. I reimbursed everyone.

There is no need to prepay. However, you can send me an email with the subject "Pentax K-3 e-book" or "Ricoh GR e-book". I will add your name and email address to a list and will let you know the minute the e-book(s) is be ready.

Thank you for your business. I am working diligently on completing the e-books but have yet to receive the Pentax K-3 to complete and verify everything. I do have the Ricoh GR and it might be completed sooner than the K-3 if I don't receive mine soon.

Best Regards,

Yvon Bourque

Please help me write more e-books for Pentax and Ricoh.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

 Hi Photographer friends,

Recently, I changed my e-commerce store to one managed by Go Daddy. I am very happy with it and it is much more user friendly for customers. Immediately after payment, you can download the e-book you purchased. Of course, I am always available on my email to help anyone with problems downloading or other concerns.

I don't really make a lot of revenue from these e-books, but I love the fact that I can help someone, somewhere, learn more about their particular camera or become a better photographer.

One thing I cannot do myself, is to get on the various forums and talk about my e-books, as this is considered spamming. People do get on these sites and post about all kind of equipment, cameras, books, accessories, etc, but it seems that as long it is not from the manufacturer, it is not spamming.

If you got one or more of my e-books and it helped you, I would really appreciate someone posting about them of other sites. I spend long hours writing these e-books but cannot afford expensive marketing campaigns.

I also design the Focus Chart below that I give away. Thousands and thousands of people have downloaded it, but there are absolutely no profits from these. I designed them because there was a real need for a free AF checking method.

All my current e-books are available here.http://www.ebooks4cameras.com/

I am currently completing the e-book for the Ricoh GR and will then write the e-book for the new Pentax K-3.

Please buy my e-books,

Best Regards and thank you,

Yvon Bourque

Raise your hand if you have ever lost digital image files.

Email: brqyvn@gmail.com

Hi Photographer friends,

I have been taking photographs since I was a kid. That's a long time and a lot of photographs. Of course, my early pictures weren't all that good and most are long gone. I have to say though, I still have some of those images tucked away in some shoe boxes after all these years.

I don't look at them very often, maybe every few years or so. It's always nostalgia 101 for me, and even if it brings back good memories, it has a way to make me reflect on the years gone by...but that's for another post.

I turned to digital in the mid 90's and I was blown away with the ease of use and the possibilities. At first, I wanted to print every images, and I did for a while. It didn't take long to realize that it was costly to print them and started to use floppy disks to save my images for future needs.  Gradually, I updated computers, and as the technology evolved, the media changed as well. I went from floppy disks to CD's, to DVD's, to hard drives, to ever bigger hard drives, to portable hard drives, and recently, to the clouds.

Well, with all that fantastic technology, I lost about 60% of my pictures. I had hard drives crashes, updated computers and forgot some images saved in some folders, changed and updated software, etc. Whatever the reason, some files a gone forever. Strangely enough, I was able to recuperate some images by Googling on images under my name.

Most digital cameras currently use SDHC  cards, at least all my Pentax cameras do. In the early days, film was expensive. A roll of 36 pictures, including processing would cost you around $20 bucks. Now, with memory cards holding anywhere from 200 to 500 "RAW" files and costing between $10.00 to $25.00, I am thinking that  memory cards are cheap enough to take pictures until a card is full, (that's after deleting the bad images), and to file lock the card so it cannot accidentally be overwritten. There is no need for shoe boxes anymore. A small 3" x 3" x 3"box can keep hundreds of cards, each holding hundreds if not thousands of images.  Images can be in RAW format (DNG is a good way to go since it's the closest to a universal RAW format. It is the Adobe standard.

Saving images in RAW means that in the future, as software becomes even better, you might be able to bring back older images and use more advanced software to process them into  better images than the originals. That is a fact, as I already brought old files and make them look better than the originals.

I still save my images within my Adobe Lightroom folders, as well as in the clouds, but I do not erase files from my SDHC cards anymore. I label them, slide the little tab on the card to prevent overwriting, and save them in a small box.

The memory cards are still much cheaper than film and negatives, and unless I lose the box, I retain all my images. Of course, they are also saved on my computer a few times, on separate hard drives and in the clouds, but I can guaranty you that hard drives will crash, clouds saving will be tampered with by hackers, and computers will be upgraded.

You only have one life to live and you can't go back. Save tomorrow's memories now.

Thank you for reading,

Yvon Bourque
