Last Thursday, August 6th, I attended the Pentax K-7 Viral Tour in Redondo beach, California. I had a chance to converse with Ned Bunnell (President Pentax USA ), John Carlson ( Mgr product Mktg and Support), Carolyn Pitcavage (Organizer of the Viral tour) and Mark Dimalanta (Pentax photographer " Inspirationalist Pentaxian" specializing in Surfing photography. I also met many Pentax users and enjoyed the camaraderie amongst other Pentaxians.

Pentax's head office is located in Colorado but Ned and Mark live on the coast of Southern California. Ned lives in San Clemente and Mark, in Huntington Beach, although both have to be away from their home most of the time for business. I have lived all across this country, and I always like to return to the Southern California Beaches as often as I can. It's special over here. It's not just the sand and water, it's the people, it's the way of life, it's the way most ride their bikes to the beach, it's the food, the boardwalks, the smell of salty air, etc. If you've been here, you know what I'm talking about. If you have not, you need to come and visit.

There's always something going on. We had to drive a couple of hours to get here and decided to spend most of the weekend here. Actually, we drove home going north along the Pacific from Redondo Beach. The photo opportunities are plentiful. Our last Beach Town was Santa Monica where we had lunch at the promenade and took a stroll on the famous Santa Monica Pier. Like most, we have real jobs and had to be back to work by Monday morning, but we had so much fun that we are talking a four-day break this coming weekend and going back to the beach. This time we are going to Pacific Beach, near San Diego. I hope to have some good pictures to share with you next week.

I finally completed the K-7 e-Book : Pentax K-7 "Everything you need to know...and then some." I am offering it as a downloadable e-book at the present and if the demand is big enough, I may offer it in printed form, although it has gotten so expensive to make printed books. It is now available at a price of $10.00. It has much more information in it than my previous books, but the K-7 has so much more to offer. I have many more color pictures and illustration, to help grasping the functions of the K-7, than in my previous books. Although a good part of the book is specifically about the K-7, there is a good amount of generic photographic "how to", lessons and color examples.

OPERATION OF NEW K-7 CUSTOM FUNCTION (firmware update 1.01)

With firmware version 1.01, the PENTAX K‐7 now features an additional custom function called Operate at AF Point “SEL”.

This new custom function affects the behavior of the 4‐way controller when using user‐selectable focus point adjustment.

To modify this custom function, navigate through the K‐7’s menus to custom function 36. Highlight the custom function, then press the right arrow to see your available choices.
Highlight your choice, then press the OK button.

Calling Function Preference. By default, when using user‐selectable focus point
adjustment, pressing your 4‐way controller buttons will call the functions associated
with those buttons. To change your focus point, you must first press the OK button, then
use your 4‐way controller to change the focus point.

Select AF Point Preference. By default, when using user‐selectable focus point
adjustment, pressing your 4‐way controller buttons will change the focus point. To call a
function associated with one of the buttons, you must first press the OK button, then
press the button of the function you wish to call.
